Dr. Rankin is a board-certified psychiatrist providing care to adults ages 18 and older. He treats a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, OCD, PTSD, and ADHD, among others. Dr. Rankin’s focus is medication management; however, he pays careful attention to underlying psychodynamic issues in order to fully appreciate the whole person, and he routinely refers to psychotherapy as appropriate. He believes in a collaborative and patient-centered approach to care and recognizes that each individual is unique. He offers a safe and comfortable space for patients to discuss difficult issues without fear of judgment or bias, and he appreciates the importance of close, compassionate listening to overall treatment success. Dr. Rankin attended medical school at Albany Medical College in upstate New York and completed his residency at Mt. Sinai-St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. He also completed a visiting fellowship in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) at Duke University and has several years of experience administering ECT as an alternative treatment modality for depression. Dr. Rankin has been practicing in northern Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region for the past 8 years and has been recognized in Northern Virginia Top Doctors and Arlington Top Doctors magazines. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
